I can't thank you folks enough for the recipes to replicate my beloved Helm's Cream Puffs, as well as for sharing your memories of this great institution! Of all of the wonderful things about being a kid in L.A. back in the 1960s, thoughts of the Helm's coach rolling down our street are some of the sweetest of memories. Each time I visit the Petersen Auto Museum, I have a bit of a linger around the Helm's coach, and I swear I can still smell the fresh doughnuts and bread when I look at those gleaming glass cabinets. I still remember buying my Astro Boy theme 45rpm from our local Helm's Man. (Engineer Bill advertised it on his show). Whenever I meet long-time Angelinos, we inevitably end up sharing happy memories of drive-ins, Pacific Ocean Park, Ascot Raceway and especially Helm's Bakery. Good times, indeed...
