I am not sure if the sweet tea at your restaurant was a special sweet tea or just ordinary Southern sweet tea. But here is how I make it.
Take about 4 cups of water and 2 family size Lipton tea bags (decaf works fine too.) Bring to a boil, boil 3 minutes then turn stove off. Let steep for 15 minutes.
Pour into a one gallon pitcher.
Pour in 1 1/4 cups of sugar and stir to dissolve.
Add water to fill pitcher almost to top.
Serve cold or over ice.
