My name is Walter Relling, I am married to the daughter of the original proprietor of Wimpy's Inn in Ogdensburg (George Wells). You may be happy to know that we have re-opened Wimpy's Inn and are happily serving Wimps and Hots at our new location (still in Ogdensburg).
I read the recipe someone posted here. It is a pretty nice try and I'll bet it tastes pretty good but it is not even close. Its funny, it seems everyone in Ogdensburg claims to have the "original Wimpy Sauce" recipe and some of the ones I have heard are similar to the one posted on this site by the former fire fighter.
My wife loves the fact that people try to duplicate the sauce, as imitation is the most sincere form of compliment. She is the only one who really knows it because George passed it to her (verbally) and taught her the process when we bought the business from George in 2000.
My advice is to have fun making your own version of "Wimpy Sauce" but when you come back for a visit come see us. We continue to proudly serve the people of St. Lawrence county with a "North Country" original and will do so as long as the good Lord sees fit to allows us to.
