INDIAN BEEF PATTIES
FOR THE SAUCE: 1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt 1/3 cup seeded cucumber, chopped FOR THE PATTIES: 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons fresh jalapeno pepper - seeded and finely chopped 1 tablespoon snipped fresh mint or 1 teaspoon crushed dried mint 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon bottled minced garlic (or 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder) 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 ounces lean ground beef, pork, or turkey
TO MAKE THE SAUCE: In a small bowl stir together the yogurt and cucumber. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
TO MAKE THE PATTIES: In a medium bowl combine the onion, jalapeno pepper, mint, cumin, garlic, and salt. Add the ground meat; mix well. Form mixture into two 3/4-inch-thick patties.
Grill over medium heat for 14 to 18 minutes or until patties are done, turning once. Or broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for 12 to 14 minutes, turning once.
Serve the patties topped with sauce.
