For campfire pizza, I have used pita bread before. We also take a small cooler sometimes and take refrigerated bread dough. Tip, if it is in a roll type can, open it and place it in a ziploc bag. The pressurized cans tend to pop open sometimes during transit! Hope this helps, I will also scroll through some camping books I have to see about alternatives! Oh, here I've found a couple to include:
EASY CAMPFIRE PIZZA
tortilla shells tomato paste shredded cheese vegetable oil
Oil a skillet or cast iron fry pan and place one tortilla shell on the skillet. Spread a thin layer of tomato paste on the tortilla shell. Sprinkle with shredded or sliced cheese. Add any other pizza toppings that you like.
Cook over open fire, checking for doneness. Pizza is done when the tortilla shell is lightly toasted and golden brown.
Fold in half and cut into pie shaped chunks. Enjoy.
3 MINUTE PIZZA
1 pkg. pita bread 1 can spaghetti sauce 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese 1 pkg. sliced pepperoni Any other toppings as desired How to Prepare: Equipment; aluminum foil, spoon.
Cut pita in half and spoon spaghetti sauce into pocket spreading evenly. Add mozzarella and pepperoni and any other toppings you wish. Wrap in heavy duty foil and place in coals.
Cook for 1 1/2 minutes on each side. (You just want it to get warm and to melt the cheese. For really hot coals this is plenty of time.)
Comment: Serve with salad for a quick meal or it makes a great campfire snack!
