Here is an edible version that I use all the time for decorating cookies:
3 TBS meringue powder (available at craft stores, I use Wiltons brand)
1 lb. (4 cups) confectioners sugar
6 TBS warm water
Beat until icing forms soft peaks. 7 - 10 minutes withe Kitchen Aide or 10 -12 minutes with hand blender.
I separate it into paper cups and mix in paste colors with a plastic spoon. Put in clear disposable pastry bags with small hole tip and decorate cookies.
