I make a chocolate sponge type cake and use the filling made of flour and milk and added to the butter mixture like on the ho ho recipe and bake that cake in jelly roll pan and roll it up, let it cool and fill it. You can do that with lots of cakes, even angel food. If you don't have a recipe you are comfortable doing that with, let me know and I will post it.
