I got this recipe in the mid 1960's from a woman I would baby sit for. I was in high school and collecting recipes even then. It is still one of my favorites. The hint for the empty Saran Wrap (waxed paper, aluminum foil, etc.) box is a trick I came up with years ago and saves a lot of time and trouble. * Exported from MasterCook *

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
Cream:
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
1 cup butter, softened
Add:
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Add:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Stir in:
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 cup raisins (optional)

Shape into 2-3 rolls and wrap in waxed paper, then in Saran Wrap. Chill thoroughly. Slice off 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick (the thinner the crispier). Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Keep dough well refrigerated. Yield: 5 dozen

Save your wax paper and Saran Wrap boxes when they are empty . Line the boxes with Saran Wrap and then put the dough into them. It forms a perfect square and you don't have to worry about the hassle of forming into rolls.

NOTES : A very good oatmeal cookie.
