1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 eggs slightly beaten 1 1/4 cup flour 1t. baking powder 1/2t. salt 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup nuts, chopped fine grated peel of one lemon 1/4 cup sugar juice of one lemon
Cream shortening with sugar. Mix in eggs. Sift flour measure and sift again with the baking powder and salt. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the shortening mixture stirring constantly. Mix in nuts and peel. Bake in a 5 by 9 loaf pan at 350 for 1 hour.
Combine 1/4 cup sugar with lemon juice and pour over the top of the loaf when it comes from the oven.
