BACK IN THE 60'S, WHEN I WAS A NEW BRIDE LIVING ON A SMALL INCOME, MY AUNT SENT ME A COLLECTION OF COOK BOOKLETS THAT DIFFERENT COMAPNIES HAD PUBLISHED DURING THE WAR. MOST WERE RECIPIES THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE TO BAKE WITHOUT USING THE PRECIOUS ALLOTMENT OF BUTTER AND LARD. MY FAVORITE RECIPIE WAS FOR PEANUT BUTTER BREAD. IT WAS A QUICK BREAD, EASY TO MAKE, AND INEXPENSIVE. THE REALLY NEAT THING WAS THAT IT WOULD STAY FRESH FOR DAYS. THIS LITTLE THOUGHTFUL GIFT BEGAN YEARS OF COLLECTING SUCH BOOKLETS, AND THEY WERE FILLED WITH PRACTICAL AND TASTEFUL RECIPIES. WELL, SOMEONE ELSE MUST HAVE THOUGHT SO TOO, BECAUSE MY COOKBOOKS WERE ALL STOLEN DURING A MOVE FROM KENTUCKY TO NORTH CAROLINA.I HAVE SEARCHED FOR 20 YEARS FOR THIS RECIPIE, TRIED TO FIGURE IT OUT MYSELF (UNSUCESSFULLY), AND ASKED ALL THE OLDER PEOPLE I MET, TO NO AVAIL. I HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE WILL KNOW HOW TO MAKE THIS DELICIOUS BREAD. IT IS GOOD FOR SANDWICHES, TOAST, OR JUST AS A SNACK. THANKS, DIANE |
