this is from my Mother-In-laws kitchen! great cake and frosting!!!

1 & 2/3 cups sugar (frosting is on another page)
1 & 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs
3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla extract(I usually add 2- I like vanilla)
1/2 teaspoon salt

Combine 2/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1 egg (slightly beaten) and chocolate (broken). Cook ove Med-low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate melts and mixture JUST begins to boil. Cool to room temperature. in another bowl-cream shortening and remaining sugar until well mixed, add vanilla, add remaining eggs, beating well after each one. sift together dry ingreidentsadd to creamed mixture alternating with the cup of milk. blend in choc. mixture. bake in WELL greased and floured "9pans at 350* for 25-30 min. coll 10 min. before removing.
