Sorry to jump the que here to answer your question... When I first came to Australia from the US, I thought scones were bicuits!!! (By the way, you don't see biscuits here.) But once I tasted it, it is "sweet", not "savory". But other than that, the method of making it is just almost the same. Some people do make scones into triangles. The reason for this is to prevent it from over handling! Just like biscuits, you need a very light hand to "gather" the dough, not kneading it like when you make bread. The scones are an influence of the British. Australia is one of the British commonwelth countries. Therefore, there are many so-called traditional Australian dishes are actully British ones and the scone is one of them. I like the scones served with clotted cream and jam with a cup of piping hot tea. This is called "Devenshire Tea". (The name "Devenshire" is from Britan as you may have guessed it!!!) I have been looking for a great recipe for Devenshire Tea (scone, cream, jam and tea all inculded) but still haven't found that perfect one. There is a great tea house here in the Danenong area just outside of Melbourne which serves the best Devenshire Tea that I have every tasted. Whenever I have the craving, Chris will drive me there (1 hourof driving) just to let me enjoy it...
