Yes, "kue lapis" is the name in Indonesia. Kue means "cake" and "lapis" means "layer." It is a special occasion food and I don't know anyone who makes it at home; everybody buys it! It is frequently an unsettling shade of bright green from the primary flavoring, pandan.
An Indonesian friend once told me, in response to my observation that many food items here are peculiar shades of red, blue, green, and yellow, obviously done with artificial coloring, that if I don't want to consume an excess of artificial colorings it is still okay to eat the green stuff because that is always from pandan, not artifical coloring. Still, I must confess I have yet to buy a bright green loaf of bread, a common item in the stores here. Even though pandan is delicious.
