This is a recipe from “The muffin lady”. It doesn’t have caramel. The caramel recipe is from caramel coconut slices. I haven’t try them, but they sound good. I would put the caramel between the baked crumb bottom and the top crumb mixture. I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for. If you try them, let me know how it did work out.

Apple Bars

4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups sugar
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
5 cups chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Sift together the flour, salt and sugar. Cut the butter in to form cornmeal-sized crumbs. Reserve 1/2 cup of crumb mixture. Put half of the crumbs in a 13 by 9-inch pan. Press lightly. Bake for 10 minutes. Mix the apples with thereserved crumbs and toss with the cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.
I would spread caramel filling and top it with the crumb-apple mixture. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Cool in pan.

Caramel filling (Australian recipe: 1 tablespoon – 20ml, 1/4 cup- 1/3 american cup)
400g can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
60 g butter melted

Combine all ingredients in bowl. Mix well.

I don't really know the difference between slices and bars. Is there any?
