I have a Toastmaster bread machine. Making butter in it is really easy.
1. Make sure breadmaker and pan are at room temperature. Pour in 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream or heavy cream (at least 36% milkfat). Place lid onto bread pan aligning the front mark on the lid with the front of the bread pan. Insert bread pan into breadmaker and close lid.
2. Select butter program (#10). press start. The machine will churn for 30 minutes. About halfway through the cycle, the mixture may resemble whipped cream. It will then begin to separate into buttermilk and sweet butter. The breadmaker will beep 8 times when finished.
3. Pour off buttermilk and use in other recipes. Remove the lid from the breadpan and add 1 cup of cold water to the pan. Replace lid. Drain water into sink. Repeat rinse procedure again. Remove butter from pan. You can flavor it, put it into a mold, or refrigerate it. You'll get about 1/2 cup butter.
I have a lot of flavored butter recipes. If you want them, let me know. To make salted butter, just add 1/4 tsp salt to the butter after it is removed from the pan.
You can use light whipping cream, but it doesn't make as much butter. The more fat in the cream, the more butter you'll get.
