If the cake is too dry, make a trifle. That's what they taught us in culinary school. Cut the cake into cubes and layer in a glass bowl with a custard/pudding and fruit. Can moisten the cake with a syrup - one made with cranberry juice or a simple syrup made with vanilla liquer would be good.
It's delicious and with all the other moist stuff, your cake will soak it right up. no one will know the difference.
