I am looking for a cookie recipe my grandmother made before she died 40 years ago. It tastes a lot like shortbread, but is a soft, crumbly cookie. Very buttery and I remember it had some type of ground nuts, perhaps almonds. The cookie dough was rolled out and she used cookie cutters in the shapes of hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. After they were baked, the cookies stood about 3/4" high. She would top them with colored sugar. She and my grandfather had a restaurant in northern WI (Minong, WI)where people would come from miles around to eat their pizza and her pies and other baked goods. If anyone out there remembers Leo & Theresa Counis from Minong, WI and knows of this recipe please let me know. I haven't been able to duplicate this recipe and I've been trying for years. Thank you.
