I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom's condition. I haven't tried this recipe, but I hope this is close to the one you're looking for.

Blueberry (or Apple) Dump Cake

1 (21 oz.) can blueberry or apple pie filling
1 (16 oz.) can applesauce
1 box yellow white cake mix
1/4 lb. butter or margarine
1 cup chopped nuts

Spread pie filling and applesauce evenly in the bottom of lightly greased 13x9x2-inch baking dish.

Dump half the cake mix on top and press down into fruit with back of fork.

Add remaining cake mix and distribute evenly over other ingredients.

Top with thinly sliced pieces of butter or margarine and the nuts.

Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees.
