Mary,
Ask your friend if the cake had vertical stripes of the colored jello, when it was cut. If so, the poke cake is the one.
Also, if you make this using two layers, use a small box of jello for each layer (one of each color), rather than the large box used for the 9x13 cake. And a large fork like you would use to poke into a roast, works best for making the holes.
