Good Afternoon. Penny, if you have a few cake baking recipe books, just look for a A LADY BALTIMORE cake recipe (click here). That is a butter cake. I do not know of your baking skills, however, my friend if they are limited buy a yellow cake box mix from your supermarket. I have from the 1920's a Betty Crocker Lady Baltimore cake recipe. It is for a 2 layer cake but you can increase it by 50% That will work. I will assume you know what kind of filling you will utilize in this cake. Good Luck & have a nice day young lady.
