This is my mother's recipe. You could frost it if you like, but I don't think this cake needs any frosting at all.
GERMAN CHOCOLATE POUNDCAKE
2 cups sugar 1 cup butter 4 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 cup buttermilk 3 cups sifted all purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 package melted German's Sweet Chocolate
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, flavoring and buttermilk alternately with sifted dry intredients. Mix well. Add melted chocolate. Blend well. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake at 300 degrees F for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from oven. Cover well with aluminum foil until cool.
