ISO: Help what type of oil do I use for cakes?

Help I have a recipe book for Party Cakes. the cake recipe says to use 3/4 cup of oil. I would normally use butter or margarine, what oil should i be using!! Please help me someone my daughter is 4 tomorrow. Thanks in advance
