I use Duncan Hines cake mixes all the time and have used Wilton's fondant as well as having made my own with chips and Karo syrup with no problems. The cake needs a smooth surface with a light coat of buttercream or something for the fondant to stick to. Also, make sure your fondant is rolled out evenly and large enough to cover. Hope this helps
