BUTTER ROLLS

3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 pkgs. dry yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup butter or butter flavored shortening
1 1/2 cups water
1 egg
melted butter (for brushing tops)

In large mixer bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt; mix well.

In small saucepan melt butter or shortening, then add water to it. Add to flour mixture, and mix well.

Add egg, blend at low speed until moistened. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.

By hand gradually stir in remaining flour to make a stiff batter. Cover; let rise in warm place until double.

Stir down batter. Spoon into well greased muffin pans. Cover; let rise until double.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter and remove from pans.

Hi AlsGal,

I don't know if this is an Hawaiian recipe, but it looks like it will turn out similar to what you're describing. If you have a chance to try it, please let us know if it's the one.
