DATE NUT TORTE
1 cup chopped dates 1 (6 ounce package) Nabisco Zwieback, finely rolled (2 cups crumbs) 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts 2 eggs 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon grated orange rind 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted 1/2 cup sour cream whipped cream or your favorite sauce (for serving)
Soak dates in enough hot water to cover for 2 to 3 minutes. Drain.
Combine crumbs, cinnamon and nuts. Beat eggs with sugar until pale and lemon colored; add orange rind. Stir into dry ingredients; add butter, sour cream and dates and mix thoroughly. Pour into a well greased 8-inch square pan.
Bake in a slow oven (325 degrees F) 40 to 45 minutes or until done.
Serve warm topped with whipped cream or your favorite sauce.
