Glenda, I think this is close to what you are talking about. It is a Christmas cooky, also called "KOURABIETHES" I think.
GREEK SHORTBREAD COOKIES
2 sticks (1/2 lb.) unsalted butter
1/2 c. sifted confectioners sugar
1T cocoa powder
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. brandy (optional)
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted and then measured
1/2 tsp. baking powder
about 48 cloves
additional confectioners sugar
Combine butter, sugar and cream and mix until fluffy; add egg yolk, vanilla, and the brandy. Sift flour with baking powder and add to the mixture. If mixture seems stiff, add a few drops of warm water. Separate the dough into two batches. To one half, add cocoa powder; chill for several hours.
Form dough into balls, using about a half a teaspoon of each dough per cookie. Roll the two halves together and place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Place a whole clove in the center of each cookie.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes or untill lightly browned. If desired, roll cookies in powdered sugar while still hot. Cool, then store in airtight container.
Makes 4 dozen cookies.
