Hope this is close to what you're looking for. I've eaten and made them a long time.

Bon Bon Cookies

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
maraschino cherries

Mix butter,, sugar, vanilla. Stir in flour and salt, mix well with hands. Tint with red food coloring to make pink if desired. Or green if using green cherries.
Pinch off small piece of dough, wrap around cherry. Place close together on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool and ice.

Icing:
Mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla and food coloring. Dip top of cookie in icing, then dip in coconut.

makes 20 to 25
