Debbie, I'm not sure whether this is what you are looking for but I recently found this recipe that I plan to try, using pecans instead of walnuts. I have made sugared nuts before but never with the sour cream called for in this recipe. When I make this recipe I will roast the pecans for 3 or 4 minutes first before I cover them with the syrup. SUGARED WALNUTS Makes 8 cups
3 cups granulated sugar 1 cup sour cream (not light or low fat) 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract 8 cups walnuts, halves or quarters
Combine sugar, sour cream, and vanilla in a large saucepan. Cook over medium heat ONLY. Bring to a boil and boil gently for 6 minutes, stirring constantly.
Pour walnuts into a large bowl. Pour the hot liquid onto the nuts and stir until well-coated. Spread on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking oil or covered with waxed paper until cool then break apart. Store in a closed container.
