I am a newbie at baking. I know to most of you this sounds funny, but when baking cookies, when do you decorate them? Like if you make sugar cookies, and want to put sprinkles on them or the little colored crystals.

Also, if I want the cookies to be different colors can I put a drop of food coloring on them (before or after baking)?
