Sorry to differ, Meg, but short grain rice is NOT sticky rice and will not work in these recipes.
Short grain rice is the type of rice used in sushi and risottos (Arborio rice). While it holds together more than long-grain rice, its texture is far different from that of sticky rice.
Sticky rice also goes by the name of "glutinous rice," "sweet rice," "mochi rice," or "mochigome." (There are also some Filipino names denoting particular varieties.) It's available in Asian markets and health food stores.
