1 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups applesauce (cold & sweetened)
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 well beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 pound small gumdrop cut in half (no black) I like to use spice ones
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 box white raisins

Cream shortening and sugars. Stir in eggs. Sift flour with spices, soda and salt. Add flour alternately with applesauce. Stir in vanilla. Fold in gumdrops, nuts and raisins. Bake in a preheated oven at 275F for 1 1/2 hours. I make them in 4 small loaf pans and just watch them until they are done.
