3/4 c sugar
1/2 c softened butter
1/2 c shortening
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 1/4 c all purpose flour
1/4 c unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp baking powder
mini chocolate chips
2" pieces of licorice

Preheat oven to 325.

Beat sugar, butter and shortening. Add vanilla and egg. Blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off. Stir in flour, cocoa and baking powder; mixing well. Shape dough into 1" balls.

To form mouse, pinch one end of ball to form nose. Make two tiny balls of dough and flatten slightly for ears. Gently press into dough on upper front of each mouse. Press 2 mini chocolate chips into dough below ears for eyes.

Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and immediately press licorice into the mouse for a tail. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on waxed paper.

Yield 3 dozen
