Baked Apple Crunch Serves 6 to 8
filling: 2 pounds granny smith apples (about 8 apples), peeled, cored, and sliced 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
CRUNCH: 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup granulated sugar 3 tbsp. unsalted butter 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 tbsp. Confectioners’ sugar, for garnish (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Make the filling: in a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, and spices. Stir to coat apples thoroughly. Spoon the filling into a 9-inch pie plate and set aside.
Make the crunch: in a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, butter, and vanilla. Work the mixture between your fingers and crumble on top of the apple filling. Bake on the middle shelf in the oven until golden, 1 hour.
Sprinkle with the confectioners’ sugar, if desired.
