Onion Ring Batter*

2 large onions; sliced thin
1 cup flour
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 egg
6 tsp water; more if needed
oil for deep frying

Mix together all of the above ingredients, except the oil for deep frying. Soak onion rings in ice water for about 15 minutes. Drain and pat dry. Dip onions in the batter and deep fry in hot oil. Drain on paper towel.
