Quick Pan Roll with Wheat Germ (using hot roll mix) rec.food.cooking/Sandy Dykes (2001)
I haven't made these for a while, but I used to make them often. They're so easy and come out great.
1 pkg. Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix 1/2 cup wheat germ 2 Tbs. sugar 1 1/4 cups water heated to 120-130 degrees F. 2 Tbsp. oil 1 egg 1 Tbsp. water 1 egg 1 Tbsp. sesame seed or wheat germ
Grease two 8 or 9 inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine flour mixture with yeast from package mix, wheat germ and sugar; mix well. Stir in 1 1/4 cups hot water, oil and 1 egg until dough pulls away from sides of bowl.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Shape dough into ball, and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Sprinkle additional flour over dough if it gets too sticky. Cover dough with a large bowl and let rest for 5 minutes.
Divide dough into 16 equal pieces; shape into balls. Place in greased pans. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and cloth towel. Let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
In small bowl, beat 1 Tbsp. water and 1 egg; brush over rolls. Sprinkle with sesame seed or additional wheat germ.
Bake for 15 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown.
