German Layered Apple Cake rec.food.cooking/Glenn (and/or) Sharon Gorman (1994) Servings: 12
6 cups peeled and sliced apples 1 package German chocolate cake mix 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 1/4 cups water 1/4 cup margarine or butter, softened 3 eggs 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Frosting 1-3 ounce package cream cheese, softened 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened 3 cups powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spread half of the apples evenly in greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
In large bowl mix dry cake mix, cinnamon, water, margarine and eggs at low speed until smooth; beat 2 minutes at highest speed. Stir in nuts.
Pour half of the batter evenly over apples; repeat apple and batter layers.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
In small bowl, blend frosting ingredients until smooth. Frost cooled cake.
