Chewy Exercise Bars
rec.food.recipes/Alan J. DeWeerd (1994)

1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Choose one of the following or make up your own flavor (almost any
dried fruit and any type of nut can be chopped up and used in these):

1/2 cup dates or raisins and 1/2 cup pecans
1/2 cup apples, 1/2 cup walnuts, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup dried apricots and 1/2 cup almonds
1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup nuts

Chop up whatever you decide to flavor your bars with. Mix this with the oats, flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a large bowl.

In another bowl, mix together the butter, yogurt, brown sugar, and vanilla. Stir this into the dry ingredients.

Pour the mixture into a greased 9x12 inch pan and bake at 325 F until the top just turns brown (about 30-40 minutes). Cut when mostly cooled.

Note: These should come out fairly thin.
