Shortcut Strudel
3 frozen patty shells, thawed in refrigerator overnight. 1 1/2 cups thinly sliced apples, about 2 apples 1/4 cup dark raisins 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon lemon juice from one small lemon
Press edges of patty shells together; roll out on floured board or cloth to 18x14-inch rectangle. In mixing bowl combine apples with lemon juice, stir apples and juice thoroughly, add the mixed sugar and cinnamon, mix all ingredients again and place evenly along long side of rectangle, about 4 inches from edge. Without stretching, carefully fold the 4-inch piece of dough over filling. pick up cloth or waxed paper making dough roll forward into a tight roll. Seal ends. Place on foil-lined baking sheet (some juices may seep out of ends); curve strudel forming crescent or horseshoe shape. Bake at 350 oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on rack. Sprinkle with powered sugar. Makes 6 servings |
