One Bowl No Knead Challah alt.cooking-chien/Connie G (1999)(
This is a 'one rise recipe.' The texture of the challah is therefore not a very fluffy one. It makes a more condensed challah and is chewy and delicious. - Shaindy Weingot
1 cup warm water 1 package yeast 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup oil 1 egg 4 cups flour 1 egg, beaten to brush on challah
Put warm water and yeast together and mix with a wooden spoon. Then add sugar, salt, oil and egg. Mix well. Slowly put in 4 cups of flour mixing well until all the flour is absorbed. Cover and let stand for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place. Make into challah braids and brush with beaten egg. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes.
