Pastel de Carne (Meat Pie) Uruguay Source: Women's Day International cook Book Makes 4-5 servings
Dough: 1/2 cup butter, melted 2 tablespoons each of milk and water 1/8 teaspoon salt dash of vinegar 1 to 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Filling: 1 small onion, chopped 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 1 pound ground beef, lean 1 large tomato, chopped 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper (cayenne or black pepper) salt to taste (about a half teaspoon) 1/2 cup raisins 1 egg, beaten
Combine melted butter, milk and water. Add salt and vinegar. Add enough flour to make the consistency of a biscuit dough. Do not work too much.
Roll out, reserving enough dough for a top crust. Line a deep dish or casserole with dough, letting some overlap the sides of the dish.
Saute onion in butter until tender. Add meat, brown. Add tomato, pepper, salt and raisins. Cook for 5 minutes.
Fill casserole with meat mixture. Cover with top crust, pressing edges of dough to seal. Brush top with beaten egg.
Bake in preheated hot oven (400deg F.) for 45 minutes.
