Brown Sugar Pound Cake rec.food.recipes
1 pound (2-1/3 cups) light brown sugar 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup shortening 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature 5 egg yolks, well beaten 3 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup milk, at room temperature 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 1 teaspoon vanilla 5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 9-inch loaf pan. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Stir in well-beaten egg yolks. Sift flour with baking powder; add to butter mixture alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients and mixing well after each addition. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Fold in beaten egg whites. Bake 1-1/2 hours.
