An all-time favorite of mine and also my friends!

Hot Cross Buns
Bread Machine (2 lb. recipe)
Source: Black & Decker Manual

1 1/3 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup butter (I melt it first)
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (4c. bread flour)
1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 teaspoons yeast
3/4 cup raisins or dried mixed fruit (1 c. is OK)
GLAZE:
3/4 cup icing sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring

Follow machine manufacturer's instructions. I select Dough/Pasta setting, adding the fruit at the "add ingredient" beep. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 18 pieces. Shape each piece into a round, slightly flattened bun. Place 2" apart on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise 30 minutes or until double in volume.
Combine 1 slightly beaten egg with 1 Tbl. of water and brush on buns. With sharp knife, make two cuts 1/4" deep on top of each bun to form a cross. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes. While they bake, mix the glaze together. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle cross with glaze. Yield: 18 Buns.
