Hermit Slice

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon mace
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon allspice

Icing
3 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup icing sugar

In large bowl beat together butter, sugar, molasses and egg. Add raisins and nuts. Stir to mix.

Measure in flour, salt, baking powder, soda and spices. Stir well. Spread in greased 8 x 8 pan. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes till set.

Icing - Combine butter, brown sugar and milk in saucepan, bring to boil and simmer 2 minutes. Allow to cool till you can hold your hand under pot. Add icing sugar and stir well. If too firm add more milk or more icing sugar if too runny. Spread over squares.
