This recipe uses Cream of Shrimp Soup. I can at times find it at Safeway or at the Hometown Favorites web site.
Elegant Tuna Casserole Source Adapted by Sylvia to a recipe in her file Servings : 4
3 tablespoons butter 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped celery 2 tablespoons flour 1 cup cream 1 (10oz) can cream of shrimp soup 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper -- more if desired 1/2 cup sliced almonds dry sherry -- to taste 1/2 pound crab meat 1 can tuna in water -- drained 1 cup Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix 1 cup grated cheddar cheese -- for topping buttered bread crumbs (for topping) -- if desired
Saute onion and celery in butter until softened. Add flour and stir to a smooth paste, pour in cream, stirring until mixture thickens. Add remaining ingredients except for cheese.
Put in a butter 1 1/2 quart casserole and top with the cheese and buttered bread crumbs, if using.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until bubbly (probably an hour if prepared ahead and cold when the casserole goes into the oven)
