Grilled Asparagus with Wasabi Lime Mayonnaise
1 Tbsp sesame oil (15 mL) 2 tsp soy sauce (10 mL) 2 tsp rice vinegar (10 mL) 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (5 mL) 1 clove garlic Dash freshly ground pepper 24 asparagus spears, trimmed
To prepare marinade, combine first 6 ingredients (oil through pepper) in a heavy zip-lock plastic bag.
Add asparagus and squeeze bag to coat asparagus with marinade; seal bag. Let stand 30 minutes.
Remove asparagus from marinade; discard marinade.
Grill asparagus over medium heat on natural gas barbecue, turning occasionally until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Serve with Wasabi Lime Mayonnaise.
Servings: 4-6
WASABI LIME MAYONNAISE (yield: 1 cup): 1 cup mayonnaise (250 mL) 4 tsp soy sauce (20 mL) 2 tsp fresh lime juice (10 mL) 1 1/2 tsp sugar (7 mL) 1 1/2 tsp wasabi paste (7 mL)
Combine all ingredients. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
