CHRISTMAS COOKIES FOR KIDS TO PLAY WITH
A VERY TOUGH/STURDY DOUGH!
Source: Ginger/MN

Note from source: This is a good cookie dough for kids to play with; put lots of food color in it and let them goof with it like it's Play-Doh, only it becomes edible.

MY VERY OWN COOKIES

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
food coloring

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheets.

In a medium-size bowl, combine the flour and baking powder until thoroughly mixed.

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer at medium-high speed, beat together sugar, butter, egg, and vanilla until thick and pale-colored, 2 to 3 minutes. With the mixer at medium low speed, gradually add the flour mixture until blended.

Gather the dough into a ball and divide it into three portions Leave one portion in the mixing bowl, and place the other two portions of dough in two separate bowls and add food coloring to the dough. Knead in food coloring, working the dough until color is evenly distributed and pliable. With the white dough, you can add a few drops of water if needed, if the dough seems to dry to stick together well.

To shape the cookies, pull off pieces of the dough and roll into balls or shape as desired. Place on prepared baking sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 7 or 8 minutes until they feel fairly firm when lightly touched. Time depends on size of cookie. Cool for a minute on the baking sheet; transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Store in a tightly covered container.
