CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING
1 pint milk, scalded 4 tablespoons grated chocolate (melted over hot water) 2 tablespoons butter 1/3 cup sugar 2 eggs, separated 1 1/2 cups stale bread-crumbs (soaked in 2/3 cup water) 1 1/2 tsp vanilla, divided 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Combine milk, melted chocolate, butter, and sugar.
Beat the egg yolks and stir in bread crumbs.
Stir in the chocolate mixture and one teaspoon vanilla. Pour into buttered pudding dish.
Bake at 350F for 30 minutes.
Make meringue egg whites beaten until stiff and dry with the powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Spread over baked pudding, sealing to the edge.
Return to oven and continue baking 8-10 minutes or until meringue is light golden brown.
May be served warm or cold.
