ALLSPICE ORANGE-NUT BREAD (QUICK BREAD)Source:
Woman's Day Encyclopedia of Cookery2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
2 Tablespoons grated orange rind
2/3 cup orange juice
3 Tablespoons melted butter or margarine
1 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Into a large bowl sift sifted flour with sugar, baking powder, allspice, salt and baking soda.
Beat egg thoroughly and combine with orange rind, juice and melted butter. Add liquid to flour mixture all at once. Stir only until well blended. Stir in nuts.
Bake in well-greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3 inches) for about 50 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center of loaf comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan.
Cool completely before slicing.
Makes 1 loaf
