Recipe(tried): Prize Winning Toffee Squares (topped with milk chocolate bars)

PRIZE WINNING TOFFEE SQUARES

Soooo delicious!

1 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla
1 7/8 cup flour
6 milk chocolate bars (1.65-oz each)
1 cup chopped toasted almonds or pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In mixing bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light colored and fluffy.

Add egg yolk and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour until smooth and well blended (dough will be thick). Spread evenly in ungreased 16x14-in baking pan.

Bake for 45 minutes or until crust is golden brown and puffy. Remove from oven.

Arrange unwrapped chocolate bars evenly over top of crust. Let stand 5 minutes to soften.

Spread chocolate evenly over crust; sprinkle with chopped nuts. Let cool and cut into squares.
