BEEF STIR-FRY WITH BROCCOLI
13 ounces rump, sirloin or fillet steak, cut into very thin strips 1 1/2 level Tbsp. cornflour or corn starch 1/4 tsp. Chinese five-spice 3 tbsp. light or dark soy sauce 6 ounces broccoli 2 tbsp. sesame oil 1 tbsp. fresh ginger, chopped 1 clove garlic, finely chopped 1 red pepper, thinly sliced 1 bunch green onions, sliced diagonally 1/4 cup sherry (optional) 2 tbsp. water
Place steak in a bowl with cornflour, Chinese five-spice, and soy sauce. Mix well and marinate for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, thinly slice broccoli stalks and separate the florets.
Heat sesame oil in a wok or large frying pan. Add marinated steak, ginger, and garlic and stir fry for 3 or 4 minutes.
Add the pepper, broccoli, and the green onions and stir fry for 2 minutes.
Add the sherry (optional) and water. Cover and steam for 1 minute.
Transfer to a warmed serving dish and serve with rice.
